1241 Congress Street, A Great Place to Call Home
1241 Congress Street is available for rent on September 1 2007 on a one year lease.
It is the address of the first floor apartment
in Portland Maine that is located on the corner of Congress and Whitney, just past the
Double Tree Hotel. The owners live on the second floor. 1241 is a 20 minute walk to Payson Hall on the USM campus,
and just minutes to the Amtrak and Concord station stations. The Greyhound
station is a five minute walk. A convenience store (which makes great pizza)
is on the next corner. Our next door neighbor is one of the oldest houses
in Portland.
1241 is a roomy, and light and airy apartment with beautiful hardwood floors, high
ceilings, a non-working vintage fireplace in the original varnish with a fantastic mirrored mantlepiece
and side columns as you will see below if you take the tour. Of course, the apartment
is not furnished, we are just showing it as it is furnished by the tenants. The apartment has
three bedrooms, a 12 foot by 10 foot kitchen,
a 14 by 14 foot dining room, and a 14 foot by 14 foot living room. It is truly
a beautiful place to live. No indoor smoking and no pets. References and security
deposit are required. This three bedroom apartment is limited to three people.
.
Rent is $975 a month with a $975 security deposit. The tenant
is also responsible for electricity
which depends on usage, and for gas which heats the hot water and provides the heat.
This is a view from the porch which comes with three chairs we provide
to the renters of the apartment. On a warm summer's evening it is a fine, roomy
space for a barbeque or a place to just sit and enjoy the evening air. Please note,
parking is not
provided, but there is plenty of on-street parking on Whitney. During the Portland
city-wide snow parking-ban (maybe four-five times a winter), we can fit three more cars
in the drive for the overnight snow parking-ban.
This is a view of the kitchen; the room
is aprozimately 12 by 10 feet and quite manageable for three people. (The ceiling has been fixed).
This is a view of the fireplace I mentioned. Although it is not working
because of insurance reasons, it is a beautiful addition to the apartment. The beveled
mirror is original as is the varnish; to the left is the original china cabinet.
Another view of the dining room looking into the living room which is
at the front of the house on Congress Street. The dining room and living room are
both 14 x 14 feet in size and allow for creative furnishing.
This is looking into the living room from the archway between the two rooms, and
the camera doesn't do justice to how spacious the room is.
Not shown is a beautiful set of double french doors which open onto a small
hallway which leads to the front porch on Congress Street.
